Today, Thursday 29th July 2021 is our baby girl’s due date. We had been so underprepared for months. Finally managed to squeeze everything together and now we’re in (what feels like) the longest wait of our lives! Our lovely hypnobirthing partner Rebecca sent me this article last night that perfectly explains how I’m feeling. The nursery is ready. We have food on standby (very important in Ben’s eyes…) and our bags are packed. But there’s yet no sign of the little one.
When the nursery was almost ready, I realised I hadn’t taken any ‘maternity photos’ with just me and bump. I grabbed the camera, threw on a little dressing gown, gathered together some flowers, Ben, and the camera and took some. These literally took just 30 minutes and I’m so glad we captured them. I would have loved to have had a whole little family photo shoot with Ben in too. It just wouldn’t have been possible at the moment with everything happening in the world right now.
Instead, I’ll treasure these photos as a reminder of the nine months I spent growing this little lady and the long wait we are now experiencing. Both of us thought she would be early, we were wrong. It’s strange to look back on the pregnancy. It feels like such a long time ago that I first looked at that positive stick, but also feels like just yesterday. The start of the pregnancy was hard with the sickness, but the second trimester was a blissful breeze. Third trimester has been largely good. Despite the summer heatwave we’ve experienced which swelled up all my limbs and made it almost impossible to leave the house. I haven’t been as active as I would like, but we’ve been so lucky to have a few last minute trips away and enjoy our final few weeks together as just us two!
Today is our due date. We have no idea when our little one might be here, although the nightie I bought for the hospital arrived this morning, so I wonder if that’s a sign that her arrival is now imminent! Either way, we’re enjoying a few quieter days and the final preparation of the house. Wondering just what this next chapter has in store for us!
