I have to admit, wearing a tartan skirt the whole of your school life does put you off the pattern a little in later life. As with a lot of items on the H&M website though, I fell in love with the styling of this skirt and knew I had to have it. A high-waisted pencil skirt in a gorgeous greeny hue, perfect for the autumn season and Christmas alike.
Before Lockdown 2.0, we ventured into town for a lunch date. So I decided to pair the skirt with these fabulous green contrast boots and a camel roll neck. On the website, the model wore a large chunky cream knit, which looked fabulous. But I have a feeling would swap me. Instead, When wearing an item with more fabric, like this skirt. It always makes sense for me to pair it with something tighter fitting. Because I’m so small it’s very easy for an outfit to overwhelm me, so this is an easy compromise. Same goes for anything else. If I wear a cape or loose jumper/coat, I always make sure I wear something more fitted on the bottom half to get the balance right.
A pair of statement sunglasses, earrings and bag are all this look needs. Plus a camel coat to tie top and bottom together. I can just about still manage bare legs without being too cold and this outfit called for it. Because I’m so covered up, a bit of skin, helps maintain the balance.
I’m such a fan of this look for autumn, but really do think it will fare just as well as a festive outfit. Paired with a pretty top, some heels and a slick of red lipstick, the skirt could easily be transformed.
Maybe I’m not such a hater of Tartan these days after all! Did you wear Tartan in your school uniform growing up?
