You’ve surely heard about the LBD (Little Black Dress). But if you haven’t heard of the LWD (Little White Dress) you’ll hear it everywhere now. The LWD is a wardrobe summer staple. Unlike its LBD cousin, a white dress suits every skin tone. And is a lovely light-reflecting cool colour to wear in summer.
I’ve always purchased at least one white dress every summer and they remain my most-worn items of the season. White dresses never go out of season, so choosing the right style should provide you with wear year after year!
Personally, I always fall in love with the romantic styles. Puff sleeves, ruffles, drop shoulders and square necklines make for gorgeous silouettes. While cotton, linen and broderie anglaise make up my favourite fabrics. The majority of white dresses I own, have a tie waist that can either be pulled in to create a tighter frame or left loose for a more casual day-time look.
I’ve had the opportunity to wear a few of my white dresses already this spring and summer, but still have a few in my collection that are yet to be debuted.
This creamy, peachy off-white dress is perhaps my favourite so far. With that classic tie-waist that I love, a square neckline, puff sleeves and buttons up the front, it’s a nod to the traditional prairie dresses of the past.
We decided to have a little picnic date-night, so packed up a basket with a blanket, some pre-prepared glasses with ice and garnishes and some food and made for the coast.
I directed us down a narrow country lane, until we were thrown out into the estuary and the golden light of the setting sun. A little stone beach made the perfect spot, until the high tide threatened to soak us and our picnic and we took a seat on the sea wall instead.
Honestly? We could have been in the South of France, rather than South Devon. A glorious evening, with the perfect outfit to match.
I’ve linked a load of my favourite white summer dresses down below. Let me know if you’re inspired to make a purchase of any of them!
