The dirtiest meat shop in London, Dirty Bones, has gone green and transformed into Dirty Vegan. From Monday 10th February until Sunday 26th April, Dirty Vegan will takeover at the Soho branch. In a bid to serve up the same delicious food it usually does that just happens to be vegan. Staying true to the brands ethos, but with a health conscious and accessible twist, the food pledges to stay fun, indulgent and comforting.
Dirty Vegan just happens to be right across the road from the exact spot that Ben and I met. It will always be a special place for us, even if the beauty salon we met in is no longer. We started our date night with a cocktail each. I went for the ‘Don’t Call Me Clementine’ a citrus based martini including Bombay Sapphire Gin, Fair Kumquat Liqueur, Passion Fruit, Orange, Rosemary Syrup, Lime and Chickpea Water. Ben had the Mutts Nutts with Woodford Reserve Bourbon, apple, cinnamon & vanilla-infused maple syrup, Angostura bitters, lemon. Both were so delicious that we ordered another round once we’d finished our first.
Starters arrived while we sipped our cocktails and the restaurant started to fill up. We ordered the Chick’n Nuggets and Buffalo Aubergine. Quite frankly, I couldn’t tell the difference between the plant-based nuggets and actual chicken nuggets. Even the texture looked the same. The Buffalo Aubergine was probably a little more similar to the battered cod you get by the seaside with your fish and chips. With the sauce it tasted delicious but was just a little too oily for my taste.
I decided on a burger for mains and Ben ordered the cauliflower chicken waffle. My classic cheeseburger a reflection of the Chick’n Nuggets. The burger patty was amazing and the cheese tasted delicious, especially with the dijonnaise. Ben loved his main and we ordered Dirty Fries and Mac and Cheese to accompany. The Dirty Fries pack a jalapeño punch and topped with the BBQ Shitake Mushrooms were super filling. I could have eaten another pot of the Cashew cheese and macaroni, it was so good. Filled to the brim with savoury though, it was time for something sweet.
Dirty Vegan has secured an amazing partnership with DÁPPA. An unbelievably creamy soft serve company made from almonds and cashews. The icecream is served as either a soft serve or milkshake option. I chose Dirty Fudge Brownie and Ben had the Cinnamon Crunch. Both delicious and so moreish.
We’re definitely going to try and get down to Dirty Vegan again before it closes. But if you don’t make it, a few of the options will be on the normal menu and hopefully they may add a few of the favourites from this one too!
