French for ‘Peony’, Pivoine is the jewel in the crown that is Belsize Village. We’ve seen businesses come and go in Belsize Village since we’ve moved to the area six years ago. The one I was the most excited about when it arrived and the one I have religiously visited month on month is Nail Salon Pivoine. The owner, Aya, fell in love with the village. Through this love, she started a number of local initiatives to help bring the excitement and spirit back to Belsize.
When Ben and I moved in, the area was a thriving hub of activity. As the years went on though, businesses started to dwindle and footfall dropped. In the last year however, the Belsize Village Instagram account was founded by Aya and Bob of Penrose Care. This created a new sense of community for local residents and a place to find out what’s happening in the village.
Aya’s dedication to the Village has not only had a positive effect on Belsize but also to her own business. Pivoine remains the sanctuary and space of happiness that it was when I first stepped through the glorious pink doors when they first opened. Immediately when you walk in, the stress of the outside melts away. You’re greeted with the light, bright interiors and offered a drink. I always have a breakfast tea and you can be sure it will be served in the most beautiful, ornate pink teacup.
It’s all very well having a salon that looks good, but the service has to match. Thankfully, the service in Pivoine is one of the best I’ve ever experienced (The best and most consistent). Let’s start at the colour selection. Every colour you would possibly consider wearing in classic polish and gel, they supply.
With Aya constantly striving to provide a consistent service. The focus is always on the quality of the manicure and the paint. That said, she also ensures they remain at the forefront of the latest nail technology. Including keeping an eye on ingredients. The salon is stocked with five free nail polish and the latest Vegan and Cruelty free brand The GelBottle Inc.
The attention to detail on the cuticle work and the filing is next to none, which creates a solid foundation for a neat paint job. I can say with ease that I have never had a bad manicure or pedicure from Pivoine. The girls are more than happy to chat to you through your treatment or leave you to read a book or get on with some work.
Getting my nails done each month, has become more of a necessity than a monthly treat. After all, it’s the one ‘beauty grooming’ thing you actually see the most. You look at your hands far more than you see your own face or hair. When I have a fresh manicure, nothing helps me feel more ‘pulled together’. Before I could afford to visit the nail salon, I would give myself a weekly manicure and now having ‘done’ nails is imperative to my mood! It’s also the one time I can just sit. With my own thoughts and not look at my phone or have a chat to my nail technician and truly switch off.
If you don’t yet have a favourite nail salon in London, book an appointment at Pivoine. You won’t be disappointed PLUS it’s dog and kid friendly!
