What to see…
Lake Melissani Cave – a beautiful crystal clear fresh water lake stretching 30ft to the bottom. According to legend, Melissanthi; a beautiful Nymph, drowned herself in the lake over her unrequited love for the god Pan (half man, half goat) and the lake became a place to worship the tragic couple.
Myrtos beach – The most stunning white sands ending at a turquoise bay. The journey is not for the faint hearted however, a sheer road snaking down the cliff is the only way to and from this beach.
The town of Argostoli from the Kouvatos Lagoon. The best view of the town and breeding ground for Loggerhead Turtles. When you’ve viewed all you can, take a walk across the bridge to grab some ice-cream in the town centre.
What to eat…
Tassia Restaurant is set in the most beautiful town of Fiskardo. Pastel houses line the streets and flowers crawl all over the surfaces. Plus, the fish they serve is incredibly fresh and absolutely delicious.
Lorraine’s Magic Hill has the best ambience. We arrived to an English couple who had married earlier in the day and were having their wedding meal there. The staff put on their best Greek hospitality and we ended up joining the party well into the early hours (which if you follow me on snapchat XKatieMatthewsX you may have seen. Try the Mousakka. Lorraine swears by her recipe and is so proud of it; it really is a showstopper!
What to do…
Spend the day at Costa Costa Beach Bar – they have the most delicious cocktails along with luxurious day loungers to make you feel like a celebrity. The sunset from here is also pretty spectacular.
Go wine tasting at Gentilini Winery – a family run business that’s been going over 45 years, they produce just 50,000 bottles of wine each year, over 10 hectares of land, to keep the focus on the quality and taste of the wines.
Take a boat trip to the gorgeous Xi Beach – we didn’t actually do this as the boat was broken, but we were assured that it’s not to be missed, a stunning red sand beach with a backdrop of white cliffs.
Of course, if you’re looking for somewhere to stay… the Unique Group every time!
