Our lovely friends Tom and Aisha offered us some luxury accommodation, while we went to stay with them in Devon. Although it was just the two of us, we were in a place that slept 11!! Just next to Tom’s family home is an incredible converted barn; Blackdown Barn. They rent this out from £175 per night, and it’s just a £30 taxi ride from Exeter. What a perfect place for a group weekend retreat, girls sleepover weekend or hen/stag do. I thought I’d take a few pictures for you lovely lot as it’s such a good deal in a fabulous place which everyone should experience.
Who were we to reject staying in such a highly rated, luxury barn for the night?! Of course, I obviously can’t give you an anonymous opinion, as it’s owned by friends. However, the barn was absolutely beautiful. See for yourself;
There’s not one, but three lounge areas to choose from. The green area has a large HD, 3D TV to watch, complete with a selection of DVD’s and access to Netflix. There’s also two mahoosive (that is actually a word) bean bags to lie on, which are super comfy!
The brown leather sofa area (my favourite) has a library full of books to read and nerd up on, which is incredibly cosy when the rain is hammering against the windows on the roof. Which is another point; the ceilings are so high, you can never feel claustrophobic or constricted, even if you do have about 15 people staying there.
The table is one huge slab of wood surrounded by chairs with glorious candelabras at each end. I can just imagine having a huge group of friends to stay there and hosting dinners around the table, then drinking wine and conversing well into the early hours!
Something that really makes the Barn that little bit more luxurious, is the attention to detail which is exquisite. All the art work, yes, even that Heron is done by Tom in his free time and I absolutely adore it. He uses numerous techniques and lots of golds and metallic colours to wake the paintings up and make them pop out of the canvas. I’m secretly hoping he might one day make one for Ben and I… they really are that amazing!
Flowers rest on every spare shelf to let the building feel incredibly fresh and welcoming, as well as drawing the outside in. The guest book is a lovely touch too. Unfortunately I had 5 minutes to scribble a message in before we had to catch a train, but if you go, make sure you look at all the lovely comments!
How amazing is the green kitchen?! Just look at the gorgeous fridge!
There’s also a pool table, gym and heated swimming pool in case you fancy keeping fit away from home! I obviously didn’t make use of the facilities but did find out that I’m shockingly bad at pool…
My favourite part though? Our bedroom. En-suite with the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in. Huge fluffy pillows with a duvet that felt like I had a gigantic marshmallow on top of me, and fluffy carpets to squish your toes into.
The other rooms aren’t too bad either.
Check out those double doors?!
The only question now is; Tom when can we move in?!
