Harriet has been talking about The Pig at Combe Hotel for the longest time. For the past two years, her family has spent Christmas at the hotel. She’s been urging me to go and visit for the food and the atmosphere!
While we were back in Devon a few weeks ago, we finally decided to visit. After a weekend with friends, Ben, Harriet, Tom and I all bundled into our car and made our way to the hotel. Pulling up, I realised I had previously visited when it was Combe House!
The driveway is pretty spectacular and you get a really good feeling of what’s in store for you.
Straight away, you’re greeted by the main hotel bar. A huge roaring fireplace is opposite, surrounded by cosy sofas, people curled up on each. Shoes kicked off and discarded on the wooden floorboards. We were lead straight into the main restaurant and very kindly offered a complimentary glass of bubbles (thanks to Harriet’s great relationship with a lot of the staff). The room itself is bright and airy. Filled with rustic farm-style touches, right down to the chunks of bread served, while you choose your meal. Our tummies rumbling, we decided to start with some ‘Piggy Bits’ before all going for the Roast Beef.
Perfectly cooked, juicy pink slices of beef nestled on top of root vegetables, cabbage and the yummiest Yorkshire pudding I’ve ever had (soft in the middle and crisp on the outside). The dining room filled up while we were there. And we heard more than a few tables disappointed that a few of the roasts had run out, so make sure you get there for 12ish to avoid disappointment!
The meal devoured, it was time to attempt to burn it off with a short walk through the grounds. Up into the walled garden we went.
Getting slightly distracted on the way…

I’m Baaaaaaack! Happy New Year (can I still say that?) I’ve been internally regrouping and planning so many things for this year, which I can’t wait to share with you all very soon! In the meantime, here’s my first post of 2019. My best girlie @harrietmartinovic and I, on a swing at @thepig_hotel in Devon today, laughing and toasting champagne to one of the best friendships I’ve ever known. #happynewyear #thepig #devon #bestblondies
At The Pig, they vow that if the food served in the restaurant can’t be provided from the land around the hotels, it is sourced from within 25 miles of the hotel instead.
Wandering through the veg patches, we had time for one more little sit down by the greenhouses. Before it was time to leave and head off again.
The Pig is such a beautiful little hotel, with a number of places to eat within the main building and The Folly. It even has a Potting Shed for relaxing treatments to enjoy whether or not you’re staying at The Pig.
I personally, can’t wait to come back to visit and explore, when spring is in full flow!
