Within moments of arriving at the Mövenpick Hotel Jumeirah Beach in Dubai, our luggage had been whisked up to our room and we were on our way up in the lift to join it. The Executive Suite’s in the hotel are incredible. The entranceway leads through to a guest loo on the right followed by a little kitchenette/bar area in the main living space, with a desk area looking out onto the first balcony. Double sliding pocket doors open onto the huge bedroom, off to the left a wardrobe area and marble bathroom and to the right a second balcony facing towards Jumeirah Beach overlooking the pool.
As Dubai is continuously growing and developing, it’s difficult to find a view that isn’t about to be taken over by another Sky Scraper! Unfortunately, the view from the Mövenpick is no different as the pool is currently overlooking a building site. It is obviously good to remember however, that this won’t be forever, but may cause a bit of disruption if you’re staying in the next few months. They do also play music around the pool and pump air conditioning out, to keep the sound disruption to a minimum and to keep you cool in the hotter months.
In an attempt to momentarily ignore the chocolate heaven that had been left for us as a welcome gift, we had a quick change and made our way down to the restaurant for supper.
Every evening the buffet restaurant creates a feast based off a different cuisine from different countries around the world. While we were there, we were able to sample various cuisines, taking us on a true culinary journey. Buffet’s can be difficult as a lot of the time the food is sitting out for hours at a time all evening, but at The Mövenpick, they replaced the dishes extremely frequently to ensure they stayed fresh.
After dinner, we made our way back to the room, to get an early night ready for the day ahead.
Morning came, we slowly arose and headed up to breakfast. A buffet affair again, just as impressive as the dinner option, but this time held in the exclusive Executive Lounge reserved only for clients staying in executive room categories and above. If you’re wanting breakfast with a view, it doesn’t get much better than up amongst the sky scrapers!
Breakfast eaten and we just about pulled on our swimsuits, before sliding into the cool pool water and lounging around in the shallow end. Throughout the morning, we ensured at least one limb was in the water at all times, to keep the body temperature down!
As if our day hadn’t been relaxing enough, we booked a late morning 30 minute couples massage in the spa, although I almost didn’t leave the changing rooms, they were that luxurious!
The massage was heaven and I could have quite happily wallowed there for the rest of the day, but instead we dragged ourselves away to the gym for a quick workout. Now, the gym isn’t my natural habitat, but with views of Jumeirah Beach, MTV latest hits on full blast, air con, fresh cucumber water and all the equipment you could want with zero people in there but me and Ben, even I couldn’t find an excuse not to work out!
Feeling thoroughly energised and pleased with ourselves, we headed back to our room to change before replacing all those calories.
Afternoon Tea is a daily occurrence at the Mövenpick JBR. Hosted, once again, in the Executive Lounge. We decided to attempt to brave the heat of the day and sit on one of the private balconies to consume out feast, but were defeated just a few moments later when we realised that hot tea and hot weather don’t combine particularly well, especially with chocolate cake.
Still, it’s the best view I’ve ever had from an afternoon tea.
It’s only fair that after such a decadent afternoon, we tried to walk at least a bit of it off, so we made our way across to Jumeirah Beach for a sunset stroll. We weren’t disappointed as the sun turned the sky a million different shades of orange and pink before it plunged behind the horizon line, just as the camels started to head home for the day. With a backdrop of glass and mirrored sky scrapers, the whitest sand beach and camels, it truly was one of the most surreal experiences of my life!
A hot rose petal bath and bottle of wine waited for us back in the room and I eagerly climbed in to wallow away a few hours before dinner.
If groundhog day just happened to fall on this day, you wouldn’t find me complaining!
