I’ve had the pleasure of staying in some incredible ski resorts in my life including Meribel, Val d’Isere, Les Menuirs and Gstaad. The one thing I’ve taken from each is that they are all completely different. At this point in my life, I rarely go on family holidays, instead opting to go away with friends. Myself and Ben and some of our friends have been talking about going skiing together for a while now, but it’s always been way out of everyone’s budget. I truly think we’ve found the perfect place in Morzine, so I thought I would give you five of the reasons we’ll definitely be heading back.
1. It’s home to some of the most beautiful slopes I’ve ever seen.
Frosted white trees line the most beautiful sweeping runs. As you ski between the evergreen forests, all you can hear is silence and the sound of your own skis drifting effortlessly across the paths. Snowflakes dance between the trees, twisting their way towards you. It’s near impossible not to open your mouth to catch the frozen water on your tongue as you ski on.
2. Affordable, luxury accommodation.
From the moment we stepped through the door of TG Ski’s Summit Collection Chalet Pierrys in Morzine, it felt like a home away from home. We ran in to find our bedrooms, ours a glorious double with views over the town and the mountains and slopes beyond, before throwing everything into the wardrobe and heading downstairs to explore the chalet. The accommodation was incredible. Sleeping 12-14 and split over two main levels, it has a hot tub, sizzling log fire, heated ski storage and some of the best views in the resort.
Emily, Pierre and Ross looked after us during our stay and each day we were treated to a delicious cake and tea at 4pm, cocktails and canapés at 6.30pm, followed by a sumptuous three course dinner with dishes such as Salmon Gravlax to start, Pork Belly for main and a chocolate mousse for pudding. Each course would have its own wine pairings and an unbelievable cheese board as the grand finale. All cooked and prepared fresh for us by Pierre. For the days when we wanted to hit the slopes, Ross would pick us up in the TG Ski van and drive us the short distance to the bottom of the runs. Completely taking the fuss and stress out of getting to the slopes with all your gear.
3. A gorgeous Chocolate Box Town
The town of Morzine is beautiful, when we arrived, the resort had received the most snow it had seen for years. Everything was coated in a heavy layer of white, weighing down the branches and turning previously recognisable shapes such as bins and cars into random white lumps in a field of glittering powder. There are huge old mansions sitting just a stones throw from the centre of town and not a tower block in sight! With some gorgeous little shops, bars and restaurants within the town to explore.
4. Super Easy to get to and one hell of a journey.
The drive up to Morzine, is literally like stepping through the wardrobe into Narnia. I am very used to leaving a whole day to get to resorts and arriving in total darkness, but when driving up to Morzine we got there before 4pm on a super easy transfer through the most beautiful scenery with a photo opportunity around every corner. Just one short car journey from the airport straight to the door of the chalet.
5. Lots to do for the non-skiers.
If everyone in your group is a skier, but you’re not, not to worry. There is plenty to do for everyone. Sadly, but fortunately for us skiers, there was so much snow coming down when we went that our activities actually got called off. We had planned to go skidooing, snow shoeing (walking through the beautiful winter wonderland with funny tennis-racket type contraptions strapped to your feet) and ice skating. You could get a massage at the chalet, go on a helicopter sightseeing tour, visit the spa, go swimming or even go on a husky ride. All of which you staff at the chalet can organise for you. If you’re not as adventurous, you can even just relax in the hot tub at the chalet or wonder into town to ride the Carousel.
Are you heading off skiing this winter, or are you opting for some winter sun instead?
Thank you so much to TG Ski for taking us on a little winter break, I couldn’t recommend them enough, we had the best time!
