Burgundy for autumn

Katie Heath, KALANCHOE, Burgundy for autumn,

It’s no secret that I love a burgundy shade. The colour, to me, screams autumn, and if you want the darker shades, but aren’t quite ready to switch to a full black wardrobe, this is a great alternative.

I have a lot of burgundy pieces in my wardrobe and wear them a lot separately, to immediately autumninise (not a word, but I’m making it work) an outfit.

A burgundy lip is my favourite. This shade is called Leo and it’s from Kylie Cosmetics. It’s the perfect shade and I’ve loved it since I bought the mini lipkit last year. I’ve actually been really impressed with the lip colours from Kylie’s range. The stay wear is great and they only need topping up after meals. If you’re not prepared for the heavy import tax, why not try this one from Kat Von D, another brand I am loving for the lips at the moment.

In terms of tops, knitwear is a staple for me in November. If you want more inspiration for that, I popped up a video on all my knitwear finds recently. I’ve struggled to take off this top from Oasis as it’s just so comfortable and I love the little ruffle details. This cape from Reiss is a winner. Worn over a top and bottoms or over the top of a coat as a scarf, it’s a great addition to any outfit.

If Burgundy isn’t a colour that really ‘suits’ you, you can always try it on your bottom half. When certain shades don’t suit us, generally we think of them being next to our face, but most colours work for anyone on the bottom half so this pair of jeans is a great way to tie it into your wardrobe.

If the bottom half is still a little too close for comfort, there are some great pairs of shoes out there to throw into the mix. I’ve included a few of my faves below.

Finally, if all of the above is still a little too scary. Pop a wave to the burgundy trend with your nails. This is Oxblood by Shellac and looks fab on most skin tones, more below though.
