Last week, Ben and I were very kindly invited by Aston Martin to stay for a few days at the beautiful English Country Manor; Cliveden House. Our first thought was ‘Definitely, YES!’ and our second… what on earth do we wear? It was a predicament I had been in before. So I thought I would help solve the problem, in case you are ever in the same predicament.
I knew we would be driving the beautiful Aston Martins, so knew I needed to pack a comfortable outfit that would travel well in the car and not crease too much. A simple balloon sleeve t shirt and dark blue jeans with wedges, a pair of sunglasses and my YSL Kate Bag were the perfect choice. Simple, casual, but also smart and comfortable. I knew this outfit would also be perfect tucked into a pair of Wellington Boots for a stroll around the grounds should we feel like it.
A trip to the spa called for a bikini. I’ll always take a bikini to a spa over a swimsuit so that it’s easier and more comfortable during that blissful massage. A few of my current faves are below, this is the one I took with me.
I always think, you can never be too dressy for dinner, but a simple cocktail dress is always a good option. I brought a choice of two with me, so that I could decide on the evening and just in case something happened to one of them (you can never be too prepared!) The trick is in the accessories. A smart pair of pointed toe heels and a matching handbag make a statement, look smart and ‘put together’ but not as though you’ve spent hours pouring over it.
I ended up choosing the white dress, because I knew I would be more comfortable in it at the dinner table. The mint green is definitely made to be twirled in around a dance floor…or ballroom!
Finally, we had Afternoon Tea planned for the next day, so I had packed a smart top and pair of trousers, then threw on my favourite heels from the night before to tie the outfit together. The trick with this is to look elegant, but also have an expandable waistband to be able to fit all of that delicious food in! Of course, during these months, I would always pack one light jacket or blazer that can be thrown over any of the outfits. A simple blush blazer with gold buttons looks smart and sleek with every outfit and takes up minimal room in my packing!
If the weather had been a bit better (I always check what it’s doing before I pack) I would have also taken a summer dress that could have been paired with my wedges. Or I would have swapped the jeans for a simple skirt that worked with two different tops.
So, there we have it! To recap, this is my list: Jeans x 1, Cocktail Dress x 2, Tops x 2, Trousers x 1, Blazer x 1, Bikini x 1, Wedges x 1, heels x 1, Handbags x 2 (one clutch for evening, one day bag) and don’t forget your underwear!
