It’s actually very rare that Ben and I get to appear in photos together as usually it’s either me taking photos of him or him taking photos of me, so we’re both so excited to be working with American Eagle Outfitters to showcase four different SS17 looks.
American Eagle are getting attention for all the right reasons at the moment. They’ve focused their most recent campaign (#WeAllCan) around non-photoshopped images of models, creating a much more relatable image and earning something that all brands fight for; our trust. Fronted by Iskra Lawrence, the AERIE Campaign (Lingerie and Swimwear side of American Eagle), showcases women in bikinis with bra marks and natural freckles – a refreshing sight, and a positive message to the young women that follow the brand.
The clothing reflects that playful, unedited and unapologetic nature with pretty florals and pastel colours refreshed with this seasons cute frills and cold shoulders. Perfect if, like me, you love to look glam and ‘put together’ but can’t resist kicking off your wedges to run through fields and flowery meadows. Of course, Ben and I always like to coordinate, made much simpler when fabrics and colours align, something American Eagle have managed to do perfectly this season.
Our first look was for a sunny day out in my hometown of Devon. When we spotted this field of yellow, we knew it was the perfect backdrop for the fun pieces. I’m wearing this cold-shoulder blue and pinstripe dress with contrasting sandals, glammed up with a pair of mirrored aviator shades (the one style of sunglasses that I think suits everyone). Ben’s wearing a shark print short sleeved t-shirt and shorts, with brown sneakers and the non-reflective version of my shades.
Next up, this is the side of me that isn’t seen very often, and is probably never really shared on social media. A Tom Boy in mum jeans and a cosy white knitted top (perfect for throwing on over a bikini on the beach), with a pair of much more comfortable, pretty, detailed sneakers. If you know me well, this is a look you’ll have seen before, because I’ll only wear flats in this way if I’m truly comfortable with you… or if you are now reading this blog post. Ben wears a fun palm print shirt with jeans and white sneakers to match my low-key look.
Some of the American Eagle clothes made it into our suitcases for a trip to Morocco and were the perfect choice for a pre-dinner rooftop drink in our beautiful hotel after a long day in the souks and Medina of local Tetouan. I’m wearing a cute midi-dress (my favourite length – so flattering) with cut outs for that playful edge American Eagle is famous for. Ben went for a similar colour in his mint toned shorts with a plain white T shirt (which he tells me is the softest t-shirt he’s ever worn – I concur) and some deck shoes to transition the outfit from day to night.
Finally, and probably our most typical London look, I am wearing the comfiest jeans I’ve ever owned, a pair of very old wedges and a very on-trend gingham halterneck, while Ben styles himself in a navy print shirt and white jeans. This is what you’ll find us in most weekends when we’re brunching in Belsize Park or heading for a day shopping on Oxford Street; comfortable without sacrificing any style.
I’ll be mix and matching these looks until the end of spring and probably until the end of summer too, they’re so versatile and made with the softest fabrics I’ve ever worn. American Eagle have very kindly given all readers a generous 20% discount off the website with the code Katie20 so make sure to apply it if any of the pieces catch your eye!
