The Secret Winter Garden

The Winter Garden, The Four Seasons Hotel, Park Lane, London

Mayfair is my favourite part of London. I can never put my finger on exactly why, but I can just imagine the horses and carriages rolling through the streets with their Lords and Ladies in their finest attire ready for afternoon teas and shopping.

If you stroll around, you’ll find yourself amongst some of the best hotels in London. One such establishment is The Four Seasons and, if you hurry, you may just make it in time to see their Winter Garden.

Ben and I popped down at the weekend and were lucky enough to have the entire garden to ourselves.

A carpet of white spreads across the flower beds in the form of Cyclamen and blue pine trees create a nostalgic smell of Christmas. Fairy lights glisten everywhere and hundreds of lanterns lie in wait for darkness to fall, before they can be lit.

I ordered steaming mugs of hot chocolate from the drinks hut…

before we snuggled down in thick blankets in the Hennessey Lodge to drink them. Sheltered from the bitter cold and grateful for the additional heater that was dragged over to us.

You can hear cars rushing past on the main road outside the hotel and every so often you’ll catch a glimpse of a tourist peering over the wall and into the garden to see the wonders it holds, but it truly is one of London’s best kept secrets.

Every-so-often a gentleman would appear with a tray of delicious food

Truffle Croque Monsieur which was actually the best I’ve ever had (and I don’t say that lightly)

The Four Seasons twist on a hot dog. Incredibly seasoned sausages in a crisp brioche roll dripping with honey and mustard sauce. Unbelievable.

We ordered another round of drinks. The Winter Garden tea for me (a little too sweet, but if you love honey and cinnamon, you’ll love this) and a hot toddy for him.

To finish, plates of banana and lime and marble cake were brought out for us to feast on while we warmed our hands around our hot drinks.

Definitely a Sunday well spent!

The Winter Garden at The Four Seasons is open until the 28th February and would honestly make the most perfect Valentines date night location.
