The cold hit us as soon as we touched down on the Greek Island of Kefalonia, but the warmth of our welcome to the beautiful F Zeen Retreat Hotel (as well as the blankets that were given to us to wrap around our shoulders) on arrival, soon helped us brush it off.
Plates of food made their way over from the kitchen to our table, quickly filling it and were just as quickly hungrily devoured. Each local dish was carefully designed and chosen by the owners daughter Anastasia, with great tasting and healthy meals in mind. We quickly learnt that each member of the family in this business are extremely involved and hands on, utilising their skills in different fields.
Anastasia, the owners daughter, not only works extremely closely with the chef to produce fabulous healthy meal choices, but also doubles up as the yoga instructor, while her brother Evan deals with a lot of the marketing and sales for the hotel.
It was a fairly early night that evening as we all climbed into our huge, comfy beds in our spacious rooms, eagerly awaiting morning to be able to explore the hotel. I was up with the birds, raring for an early morning yoga session. Felicity and I were the only two that managed to make it up that morning out of our party, and the rain poured down around us while we stretched out our bodies, easing the tension away. I watched the flowers dipping under the strain of each rain drop and stretched my body towards the ocean’s horizon line, pushing my stresses right out to sea while reaching to the sky.
The clouds finally broke as the session ended and I raced down through the flower beds and past the pool to my room to change into a bikini and throw some clothes on for breakfast.
Padding back up to the pool-side restaurant, we all dined together before settling ourselves on the loungers with the sun beating down, warming the turquoise waters around us. Cocktails went down far too easily and were quickly replaced with fresh ones while we lazed around the pool; chatting, giggling and lapping up the suns rays.
One by one, we took it in turns to have a massage in the F Zeen Retreat’s dedicated spa area and then flopped back into our sun loungers. Two delicious cocktails down, and a relaxing massage, and it was lunch time already (well, you know how much hard work relaxing is…).
After lunch, Evan offered us a tour of the hotel as one of the Penthouses had become available. What’s really lovely about each room, is that there’s only about a 400 euro price difference between the four levels and each are decorated in the same beautifully simple neutral beach style, so there’s definitely something for everyone.
A doorway leads to a private patio entranceway for the Penthouse for maximum privacy, while the terrace shows 360 degree views of the stunning bay and rest of the hotel. The room has vaulted ceilings for that luxuriously large feel, but the simplicity of the fabrics and furniture paired with the curves of the shower room and sink help keep the cosy feel.
When the tour was over, we were free to explore the hotel and grounds. Perfect cushioned corners to snuggle down and hide in with a book are everywhere while new born kittens mew from a basket next to the reception desk. Of course, it’s not just a hotel that makes the holiday, Unique offer so much more with their concierge service; day trips and experiences like no other. I can’t wait to show you all that the island has to offer.
F Zeen Retreat has been specifically built for adults, but they’re well prepared for families too. In fact, I’m hovering over the book button for THIS incredible villa as I type. If you’re not prepared to splash out that much however, there are smaller villas, each with a pool and you can be sure that each stay with the Unique Group comes with the wonderfully thorough concierge service we experienced at the hotel.
